Chasing Rainbows

Chasing Rainbows

I saw a woman walking her dog this afternoon in the rain (or “liquid sunshine” as my grandmother used to call it). After a few minutes of idle chit chat, I pointed out the double rainbow behind her and said “isn’t it beautiful?” She shrugged and said “I wanted to get this walk out of the way before the rain started up again, so you’d better hurry too!” and off she went.

Did I hurry up? No. Did I curse the raindrops pelting my sunglasses? No. Instead, I spent the next hour chasing that rainbow. At times it went from a double to a single rainbow, at one point I saw it directly over a friend’s house!

What a great experience to chase a rainbow, to focus on something beautiful, to believe that there’s goodness around every corner, this rainbow kept me walking for a good hour!  It was a perfect reminder that you can’t have rainbows like this one without a little bit of rain. Here’s hoping you get to chase a rainbow of your own soon ????????

Pressing the pause button

Why do I love this photo? Yes it’s a pretty picture with the blue Pacific, coconut tree swaying in the breeze with not a cloud in the sky. Why I love it so much is it illustrates “pressing the pause button.”

This photo was taken midweek in the middle of the day, a day filled with tons of meetings and other things that needed to be attended to. I was so caught up in what had to be done, the next deadline that had to be met, that I temporarily lost sight of the bigger picture.  And what a great gift it was to take a moment, press the pause button, rest and reflect, if only for a few minutes!   Perhaps you can relate.

If you can relate, and are in need of some assistance in pressing the pause button with your public relations and marketing strategies and would like someone to help you refocus on the bigger picture of your business, contact us, we can help!

I was speaking with a client recently about her company and goals she would like to achieve. As we talked through her marketing strategy I said, “Let’s fish where the fish are.” Have any of you heard this saying before?

I grew up deep sea fishing with my Dad (hence posting this photo of one of my favorite days on the water), and one of the lessons I learned was if you hook up to a fish, there’s no sense in hightailing it out of there to search for the next one, why not stick around and see what else comes to the surface?

Same holds true for your marketing strategies. You know your product, you know your demographic, so why recreate the wheel? Just fish where the fish are! We can help you do that, give us a call, we are here to help you set those lines in the water and see what comes to the surface!

Like Riding a Bike

I was on a walk earlier today and actually stopped in my tracks when I glanced to my left and saw this bike propped up on its kickstand, like it was just begging to be ridden!  The story behind this bike, I will likely never know.  Maybe someone was on their way into work on this bike and a friend stopped by to give them a ride so they left their bike in the driveway.  Maybe someone dropped it off as a surprise gift.

The story I decided to tell myself (and you!), is that this bike represents my business.  Yes, it’s scary to start your own business, especially when all you have ever known is riding a bicycle with training wheels!  Yes, it’s a little bit daunting (really, no training wheels?  What happens if I fall/fail?), and yes it is exhilarating (just imagine how fast I will be able to go!).

The beauty about riding a bike is that in order to make any progress, you need to keep pedaling, you need to keep moving, and in doing so, you get to keep your balance.  Am I right?

So maybe you own your own business, or maybe you work for a great business.  Perhaps you need a little bit of help in keeping your balance and ensuring you keep on moving when it comes to marketing your product or service.  Give us a call, we can chat with you, and maybe help you a little bit as you navigate your way without training wheels.  Happy riding!

Leaning in

I almost didn’t go on my walk today.

With a myriad of excuses ranging from feeling tired and emotionally spent from the holidays, to my chest cold, to realizing that the new trucker hat I got for Christmas that I really really really wanted to wear wasn’t going to stand a chance against the whipping wind that has plagued Waimea over the last week, the list went on and on. Nevertheless, I did what I usually do in these situations, I took a breath, zipped up my Marmot jacket, put on my trucker hat and headed out.

As I silently cursed the wind that seemed to want to knock me over, desperately holding onto my hat, I looked at this beautiful grass in front of me. See how their blades glisten in the afternoon sunlight? The grass didn’t seem to mind one bit! It brought to mind a song by Amy Grant titled “How Can We See That Far.” There is one verse in particular that always stands out for me when faced with adversity:
“And the mighty wind that knocks us down
If we lean into it
Will drive our fears away.”

If you are struggling with some adversity with your business, if you feel like you are getting knocked around by some whipping winds, or maybe you’d really like some assistance with your communication strategy and don’t know where to start. Give us a call, we can lean into that adversity together, and you never know, it might just drive your fears away too!

Renewal

In my hometown of Waimea, we are graced with 60+ year old cherry trees located at Church Row. They are stunning, they are fleeting, blooming only for a few weeks, usually in the early Spring. Today I was driving around town, mind filled with typical end of the year thoughts. “What did I do well? What am I grateful for? What could I have done better?” and getting immediately caught up in the vicious cycle of planning for 2019. “What are my New Year’s resolutions? What am I am going to accomplish?” I looked to my left, and there they were, beautiful blossoms basking in the morning sunshine. What a great reminder for me, this last day of 2018. So instead of driving on to my next errand, I stopped. I took a breath. I took in the beauty of these trees and the significance of them. To me, they represent renewal, a new beginning, which is exactly what this company aims to bring to you! How can we help you feel renewed in your business in 2019? Have you a disgruntled client who is threatening your reputation, the company you have worked so hard to create? Maybe you have this really incredible service, or product, or idea that you cannot WAIT to tell everyone about. How do you do it? Give us a call, we can help. So, from this beautiful town in the middle of Hawaii, we are wishing each and every one of you a very happy New Year, and hopefully you will be able to take a moment to breathe and smell the (cherry blossom) flowers!
